Team Type 1, an international bike racing team, made Loomis their home base during the days preceding the Amgen Tour of California. John Bowler, inn owner, said the group flew in from Italy and consisted of eight riders, three managers and three mechanics. He said they ate very healthy. “Lots of yogurt, fruit, granola, fresh egg dishes and sliced meats and cheeses. They ate an enormous amount of calories, but they were very healthy calories,” Bowler said. He also said they “loved strong coffee” and spoke many languages, but they all spoke Italian. He said the group rode 50 to 60 miles per day to train and said some days they rode more than 100 miles.
