Two Lincoln residents charged with shooting one’s ex-boyfriend are continuing their time in custody and court. Ruthie Ann Barnes, 21, and her half-brother, Zane Aaron Davis, 28, were booked into Placer County Jail Nov. 29 after Davis allegedly shot four shotgun shells at Barnes’ ex-boyfriend, Andres Lopez, 36, at the Auburn Super 8 Motel. The Placer County District Attorney’s Office charged Barnes and Davis with taking property from Lopez, committing an assault on Lopez with a firearm, firing a weapon in an inhabited dwelling, and possessing Hydrocodone, all felonies. Barnes is also charged with possessing brass knuckles, a felony, and possessing a hypodermic needle, a misdemeanor. Barnes and Davis are scheduled for an early status conference at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 18 in Auburn’s Placer County Jail courtroom. When Placer County Sheriff’s deputies arrested the half-siblings, Barnes reportedly told deputies that she met Lopez at the motel to buy drugs from him, and when she was afraid he wouldn’t let her leave, she called Davis for help. Davis allegedly arrived and shot out the motel room window. He then allegedly fought with Lopez, firing the gun three more times in the process. A deputy spotted Barnes and Davis in their car on Bell Road after the incident. Deputies found a shotgun in the vehicle and shotgun shells in Davis’ pocket, according to Dena Erwin, spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office. Erwin said deputies later discovered Barnes and Davis allegedly met Lopez at the motel room to rob him. Lopez was found at a Greyhound station in Colfax at 8:15 a.m. the next morning. He had a large cut on his hand and pellet wounds on his leg. He was treated at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, Erwin said. Lopez was arrested on an outstanding San Diego County burglary warrant, but he has not been charged by Placer County, Erwin said. Erwin said San Diego County dropped the hold on Lopez, because they weren’t able to pick him up in a timely manner. “For our use, they just told us to drop the hold and we had to let him go,” Erwin said. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is unaware of Lopez’s current whereabouts, Erwin said. Barnes is in Placer County Jail on a $50,000 bail and Davis is in jail on a $110,000 bail.
