Alleged extortion case continues

A Rocklin man facing charges of extortion against an Auburn resident is heading toward his next court date. Chad Richard Mowry, who was 26 when he was arrested in July, allegedly told an Auburn woman he knew prostitution was going on in her home. He also allegedly told her that he was a law enforcement official who could make any potential charges disappear. According to Auburn police, male strippers were visiting the woman’s home from Sacramento, but the department doesn’t have any evidence that prostitution was involved. Mowry is scheduled for an early status conference at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 20 in Auburn’s Placer County Jail courtroom. He is currently out of custody on bail. Mowry is charged with first-degree residential burglary, extortion by fear of force, attempted extortion, attempted grand theft by false pretense and impersonation of a public officer, investigator or inspector, all felonies. Mowry is also being charged with the special allegation of burglary with a non-accomplice in the residence. Mowry played football for Sierra College in 2003 and 2004 as a starting middle linebacker. He also excelled at the sport during his time on the Del Oro High School team. ~Bridget Jones
