Add mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to skill set

-A +A
The Newcastle Fire Protection District in conjunction with the Newcastle Volunteer Firefighters Association now owns several new pieces of equipment designed to administer first aid to animals at the scene of a fire. The kit includes oxygen masks which can resuscitate animals suffering from smoke inhalation, including dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs and even birds. Another tool is an animal training mannequin equipped with working lungs, which allows emergency personnel to practice mouth-to-snout resuscitation. Included in the kits are all the basic supplies, including leashes, used to administer first aid to household pets. The Newcastle Fire Protection District thanked Greg Clore of Invisible Fence of the Foothills, Wag’N 02 Fur Life Program and Rescue Critters! Animal Training Mannikins for providing all of the new equipment free of charge. ~ Staff report
