A Sacramento man was in “fair condition” after he crashed into the center of Interstate 80 Friday afternoon. Jose Biedra, 22, was transported to Sutter Roseville Hospital with complaints of chest, back and neck pains after the tan Honda Accord he was driving crashed into the center divide of westbound Interstate 80 at Gilardi Road, according to Officer David Martinez, California Highway Patrol spokesman. Martinez said earlier it was reported that the driver of the Honda had suffered a heart attack. Officers later discovered that had not happened. Biedra reportedly told officers that another vehicle had swerved into his lane, which in turn caused him to veer out of the far left lane and hit the center divide. Martinez said that several drivers, including a nurse, stopped along the side of the road to assist. The cause of the accident, which backed up traffic to Newcastle for about half an hour, remains under investigation, Martinez said. ~ Jenifer Gee
