A lasting legacy for late Del Oro girls basketball coach Mike Takayama has been set up in the form of the “Michael Takayama Memorial Scholarship,” which will be awarded each year to seniors at Del Oro High School.

Now, to help add to that fund for scholarships, Jesika Moore, a mother of Del Oro High girls’ basketball players both past and present, is spearheading a commemorative T-shirt in memory of Takayama, who passed away suddenly last month.

“We are selling T-shirts online to help with Mike’s scholarship fund,” Moore said. “People can order T-shirts, make a donation or do both.”

Costing $20 each, the T-shirt will read on the front, “Del Oro Strong,” and on the back of the shirt, “Coach Tako, 1959-2016, Always in Our Hearts.”

All proceeds from the T-shirt sales will go directly to the Mike Takayama Memorial Scholarship fund. In addition, by going to the link below, other donations will be accepted.  The link is

A celebration of life for Takayama is scheduled for 11 a.m. this Saturday, July 9, at  Bayside@Adventure Church in Roseville.  The address is 6401 Stanford Ranch Road, Roseville.
