Del Oro High School’s Make-A-Wish Club members helped made Reece Kerekes Christmas extraordinary.

The Del Oro students teamed up with Make-A-Wish® Northeastern California and Northern Nevada to surprise Kerekes, a 16-year-old junior battling a malignant brain tumor, with a trip to Austria.

Kerekes was surprised by her peers at a Dec. 1 school rally when invited to center stage. The Del Oro Make-A-Wish club revealed to Kerekes that her wish to go to Austria for Christmas was being granted, thanks to her Adopt-A-Wish® sponsors Jeff and Laurie Everson.

She and her family were given a six-night stay in Austria and she also received $1,000 to buy souvenirs and gifts while there.

Despite all that she is currently battling, Kerekes remains upbeat and has a great sense of humor, according to Make-A-Wish® Northeastern California and Northern Nevada’s senior director of communications and outreach Michele Flynn.  While going through chemotherapy, Kerekes continued to go to school, play soccer and participate in Future Farmers of America.

“For Reece, this (trip) will be an extra special way to celebrate her favorite season and will give her something positive to look forward to as she continues her difficult treatment,” Flynn added.
