ANGELS CAMP– If the Del Oro boys and girls cross-country teams do what they’ve done a majority of the 2018 season, they will be a force to be reckoned with during the section and state finals.

Saturday, at the Sac-Joaquin Subsection meet in Angels Camp, the Golden Eagles continued to impress as the boys team won the Division III meet by a slim five-point margin over Nevada Union, who had the top overall finisher, Garrett Gough at 15 minutes, 17.4 seconds.

Runner-up Brayden McLaughlin of Del Oro finished at 15:46.9, finishing in the Top 3 in each of the nine races he’s run this season.

Senior Reed Garland placed fourth at 16:35.0, his best 3-mile time since his sophomore year for Del Oro. Bryan Stafford finished inside the top 10 with a personal-best 16:56.5.

Freshman phenom Riley Chamberlain won her ninth race in 10 tries this season, clocking in at 17:54.2. Teammates Hannah Wirth (11th, 20:27.4), Alissa Pessin (12th, 20:29.4), Emilie Mertz (22nd, 21:02.7) and more contributed to the Golden Eagles’ second-place finish with 71 points. Vista del Lago took the top team spot with 35 points.

The Subsection’s top 10 teams for both varsity boys and girls in each division as well as the top 10 individuals will qualify for Saturday’s Section final in Folsom.

In the Division II boys race, Rocklin finished just six team points behind winner Bella Vista. Whitney placed third at 104. Also qualifying for the finals as teams were Woodcreek, Granite Bay and Oakmont.

In the girls D-II varsity run, St. Francis took the top overall spot by a wide 32-104 margin over runner-up Whitney. Woodcreek placed fifth, Rocklin eighth, Granite Bay ninth and Oakmont 10th to move on to Saturday’s final.

Lincoln’s Destiny Everett placed second overall in D-II at 19:05.5 to qualify as an individual.

Western Sierra’s defending D-V section champion Sara Sabra took second overall to Forest Lake’s Amber Jackson. The Lady Wolves did, however, pick up a victory while collectively taking the D-V race with 59 points.

Connor Dilliner placed fifth for the Western Sierra boys with a season-record 18:07. WSCA’s boys team placed fifth in the D-V race.

The Section Finals are set for Saturday at Willow Hills Reservoir in Folsom. Depending on the division, the top two-to-three teams will qualify from each race for the state meet, scheduled for Nov. 24 in Fresno.
